07 En-route Phraseology Flashcards
TCAS?
An onboard system which uses transponder infomation to alert the crew to proximate traffic and to potentially conflicting or actually conflicting tarffic.
TCAS RA?
Takes priority over any ATC.
When able you must advise ATC of a TCAS RA, as you will haev deviated from flight level.
When clear of the conflict, return to the cleared level unless told otherwise by ATC.
If you are unable to accept and ATC instruction beacuse it is in conflict with a TCAS RA tell ATC.
Content of intial call in the air?
- Station being called
- Callsign
- Level
- Speed
- Additional info
Radar Vectors?
- ATC has responsibility for seperation/terrain clearence.
- Captain ultimatly has resonsibility for terrain clearence.
Complete turn for spaceing or a delay?
Or ‘orbit left / right’ 360 or orbit. They mean the same thing.
Terminology to be used when looking for traffic?
Same Level = Negative, request vectors
Different Level = Looking out

* Negative contact
TCAS?
TA - Traffic advisory - Getting pilot ready to resond.
RA - Resolution Advisory - Tells pilots to climb.
TCAS colours?
White /Blue non -threat traffic
Yellow / Amber - Potential threat
Read - Theat
Routine Air Report: Part 1?
- Aircraft ID
- Position
- Time
- Flight Level / Altitude- Including a passing level and cleared level.
- Next position and time over.
- Ensuing significant point.

Phraseology when requesting clearence to fly procedure?
Pilots should request clearance to fly the procedure using the phraseology:
‘(Aircraft c/s), request RNAV approach, via (IAF Designator), runway xx’
MSAW?
Minimum Safe Altitude Warning (MSAW)
A ground-based safety net intended to warn the controller about increased risk of controlled flight into terrain accidents by generating, in a timely manner, an alert of aircraft proximity to terrain or obstacles.
Phraseology if unable to RNAV due to equipemnt issues?
6.3.2 The RTF, associated with a failure or degradation of an aircraft’s (civil or military) B-RNAV system, detected before or after departure, is as follows:
(aircraft callsign) UNABLE RNAV DUE EQUIPMENT
Phraseology if unable to RNAV due to no RNAV equipment?
(aircraft callsign) NEGATIVE-RNAV
How should clearence be read back?
In this case, the pilots shall read-back the entire message word for word. They should also terminate the read-back by their call sign.
Phraseology used for mode C squawk?
a) RESET SQUAWK [(mode)] (code);
b) RESETTING (mode) (code). * Denotes pilot transmission.
