05 Male Pelvis Perineum Flashcards
What is pelvic fascia
The space between pelvic wall and peritoneum not occupied by viscera
Where is seminal vesicles located and where does it secrete into
Back of bladder
Between ampulla of ductus deferens and seminal vesicles
What are the openings inside prostatic urethra for gland secretions
Prostatic utricle
Openings of ejaculatory ducts (inferior to prostatic utricle and releases seminal vesicles secretions plus sperms)
What are the areas where catheters can be obstructed
External urethral orifice
1st bend
Prostatic urethra due to prostatic utricle
List the arterial supply of male pelvis
- Internal iliac -> superior vesicles artery (to bladder and ductus deferens ) and inferior vesicles artery (to prostate, bladder and ductus deferens)
- Inferior vesicle artery branch to give prostatic branch of inferior vesicle artery to supply prostate
What forms the diamond shape of perineum and how does this triangle divided
How do these two compartment further separate the perineal structures
Pubis symphisis, ischial tuberosity, coccyx
Anterior into urogenital triangle and posterior into anal triangle
Posterior compartment: ischio-anal fossa separates anal canal from lavator ani from pelvic wall
Anterior compartment: perineal membrane separates it into superficial and deep pouches/part
How do you distinguish between male and female pelvis
Pelvic inlet size/shape Pubic angle Ischial spine direction Pubic tubercle and acetabulum ratio True and false pelvis characteristics
What is perineal membrane
Thick triangular fascia structure attached to pubic arch
Anteriorly it forms a small gap and a gap posteriorly
What are the contents of superficial perineal pouch
Median erectile tissue: corpus spongiosum - bulb of penis
(In females, it divides round the vestibule to form vestibular bulbs)
Lateral erectile tissue: corporal cavernosae - attached to ischiopubic rami
The two tissues fuse to form shaft and head of penis or clitoris
And the blood supply and origin for rectum
Superior rectal artery (IMA)
Middle rectal artery (internal iliac artery)
Inferior rectal artery (internal iliac artery)
