04 - Train Electrics Flashcards
The High Voltage Circuit equipment consist of what?
Panto
Lightning arrestor
High speed circuit breaker
Traction converter
Auxiliary Inverter
What end is the Panto located?
Number 2 end
The panto electrically raised so long as?
There is 110v DC in the permanent line voltage is present
Traction motors run on what power?
3 phase variable AC
The traction converter gets how much power? And then does?
Gets 1500V DC Then converts to 3 phase variable AC.
The amount of power given to the traction motors depends on how much power is required by the Master Controller, weight of train, gradient etc. The Traction control unit computes
What is the TCU?
The Traction Control Unit, inside the Traction Controller. It controls voltage into the traction motors, power supplied depends on how much the train is powering or Rheo/ED braking.
What switch can a driver view on the traction motor?
The High Voltage Power Supply Switch. Drivers are able to view, but do not have access to control the switch
Where is the Auxiliary Inverter mounted and what is contained in it?
It is on the underframe of the trailer car and contains 2 static inverters (SIV’s) and the Battery charger.
What do the SIV’s do?
SIV’s convert 1500V DC from the TC to 400V AC and powers the Battery charger.
What does the Battery charger do?
The Battery charger provides constant charge to the batteries.
The battery charger provides 110v DC power to the low voltage systems.
What are the major components connected to the 400V AC systems?
BATH
Battery charger
Air Compressors
Traction Converter Cooling Fans
HVACS (Heating Ventilation and Air Cooling)
What is connected to the 220V AC system?
General Purpose Outlet
What happens when only 1 SIV is functioning?
If one SIV fails, the remaiuning SIV will supply power
BATH
Battery Charger (Full)
Air Compressor, Only 1
Traction Converter Cooling fan
HVACs, Only 1
The HVAC units are provided with how much power?
400v AC for Primary Power
110v DC control Circuit Power
What are the 3 distribution Lines?
Permanent Low Voltage Line
Prepared Low Voltate Line
Prepared Low Voltage and Cab Operative Line.
What equipment is connected to the Permanent Low Voltage line(PLV)?
Pantograph Electric Motor
Step Lights
Fluorescent Cab Light
Prepared Low Voltage and Cab Operative, name the important 110v DC equipment that is operation.
Safety Loop, just remember that.
There are lots more though.
What equipment is powered by 24V AC power?
HEadlights (Highbeams)
CCTV cameras in Passenger Saloon (The TVS)
Where does the Permanent Low Voltage line draw power from?
The battery, which the Battery charger in the Auxiliary Inverter charges.
An Emergency Brake application will occur under what circustances?
- Main Res prssure falls below 580kPa
- Brake Pipe pressuire falls below 300kPa (during rescues)
- When the trip is activated or raised
- When the hand or foot pilot valve are not set
- When the Emergency Auto Vigilance Device button is not pressed on time.
- Activation of the VICERS system
- When a loss of 100V DC supply occurs (Safety loop de-energises)
- When the Master Contro0ller Handle is placed into Emergency in the manned cab
- The ESB is pressed in ANY cab
- When two or more controller keys are inserted and turned.
- 23Q1 or 23Q2 trips.
What must be done to reset the Trip?
- Train speed must be below 0.5km/h.
- Trian must be stationary for minimum 5 seconds.
- Place the trip cock device to RESET and release.
- Trip activated light will extinguish when reset.
Which circcuit breakers protect the Safety Loop circuit?
23Q1 and 23Q2
The DCU emites a tone in the Saloon for how long?
1.5 seconds.
How long will a Saloon door remain open if a Driver does not press the close doors button?
1 minute.
When the Driver has to assist a passenger with special needs, the service retion feature allows which doors to open longer, and how long?
Doors 1,2,5 & 6 on the leading motor.
They remain open for 10 minutes.
When something obstructs the saloon doors, how many times will they attempt to shut and at what intervals?
The doors will attempt to shut 4 times at 3 second intervals.
Which doors does the external release operatre?
Door 1,,2,5 and 6 oan the motors
Doors 2 and 5 on the trailers.
At which doors are the Door Emergency Release (DER) located?
Doors 2 and 5.
How will the driver know if a DER is activated?
The Doors close (blue) light will flash
The ANSR (red) LED on the DDU will flash
The DOOR EMY HANDLE ACTIVATED status light will illuminate
An Audible Tone
What canthe Saloon Lighting selector be switched to?
1 - Normal full saloon lighting on both sides of the car.
1/2 - Reduiced to emergency lighting on one side of the car and normal saloon lights on the other side of the car.
0 - Emergency lighting with one saloon light illuminated above each door.
How much power runs to the VM40 event recorder?
110v DC
The Speed Threshold Train Line is used by what functions?
DUCT
Doors
Uncouple,
