differences btwn adult and child/adolescent psychopathology
child is developing and changing (pathology at one age is not pathology at another age-ex. temper tantrums)
with adults the norm is pretty static
certain disorders occur at certain stages in dvlpmt (one can’t see OCD before four)
children don’t seek help thought they become anxious (child visits physician more often b/c of discomfort on part of parent or school)

infant-stranger anxiety (after 6 mos)
toddler-temper tantrums, soiling or wetting, stuttering
preschool (2.5-5 yrs)-intrusiveness, masturbation

symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder
pattern of negativistic, hostile and defiant behavior lasting at least 6 months with the following signs: often loses temper, often argues w adults, refuses to comply, deliberately annoys, blames others, resentful, spiteful, vindictive

symptoms of separation anxiety disorder
unable to leave parents b/c of worries that something bad may happen to them, fear of going to sleep, reluctant to go to school, fear of being kidnapped
cause of bipolar disorder
believed to be chemical imbalance
reactive attachment disorder symptoms
inhibited, withdrawn, hypervigilant or excessive and inappropriate sociability w strangers. limited eye contact
in children up to age 5
