Uncarved block, “nature; essence; intrinsic quality”“Simple; plain; unadorned; unaffected”- dao term- controversial - competing educational system (confucius) was all about control and civilizations by forming a perfect word and removing what is necessary Can help explain sudden enlightenment - no need to go through a gradual process when you are already perfect, like how there is no need to fix the uncarved block
