03 - Policy and Procedures Flashcards
Describe the differences in wording between Standard Operating Procedures
(SOPs) and Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG’s)
SOP’s are the laws of the department and can result in legal action if they are not
followed.
Standard Operating Procedures use defining words such as must and will.
SOG’s are guidelines that can be followed to mitigate a myriad of events but unlike
SOP’s they can be deviated from if there is just cause.
Standard Operating Guidelines use defining words such as may and shall.
Standard Operating Procedures are written policies for Fire/Rescue Department
operations. List what areas that the SOP’s include but are NOT limited to.
