A simple way to view human factors is to think about three aspects:
the individual
the job
the organisation
and how they impact on people’s health and safety-related behaviour.
Examples of organisational factors…
Culture, leadership,resources, work patterns,communications……
Examples of individual factors…
Competence, skills, personality.attitudes, risk perception……
Examples of job factors…
Task, workload,environment,displays and controls,procedures….

Intentional failures, or deliberate deviation from a rule or procedure, are known as
violations
Unintentional failures are known as
errors
Violations are divided into three categories:
routine
situational
exceptional
What is being described below?

Routine violations
What is being described below?
a rule is broken due to pressures from the job such as being under time pressure, insufficient staff for the workload, the right equipment not being available or even extreme weather conditions.
Situational violations
What is being described below?
something has gone wrong. When solving a problem during an emergency it may be necessary to break a rule, regardless of the risk, because it is believed that the benefits outweigh the risks
Exceptional violations
Errors fall into three categories:
slips
lapses
mistakes.
