01c Body cavities and diaphragm Flashcards
What are the pleuropericardial folds
They are small ridges projecting from the thoracic wall that separate the pleural ands pericardial spaces
Explain the formation of the diaphragm
Pleuroperitoneal folds extend medially and ventrally and fuse with oesophageal mesentery and septum trnasversum
Pleuroperitoneal membrane separates thoracic and abdominal cavities. Further expansion of pleural cavities adds muscular rim to membrane
What does the diaphragm consist of
Mesentery of oesophagus
Septum transversum
Pleuroperitoneal folds
Muscular rim
What is the respiratory diverticulum
It is an outgrowth from ventral part of foregut
What are the tracheosophageal ridges
They are the ridges that separate the diverticulum form the forgot as it expands caudally and they fuse medially to form the tracheosophageal septum.
Dorsal portion - Oesophagus
Ventral portion: Trachea and lung buds
