- 10,000 armed sailors of the Kronstadt naval base marched into Petrograd
- Provisional Government survived this because army units that were sympathetic to the Petrograd Soviet had been ordered elsewhere to participate in the June offensive meaning there were not army units to support the protest

Kornilov affair
A
- August/September 1917
- Attempted coup by General Kornilov to destroy the Petrograd Soviet and the Provisional Government
- Alexander Kerensky, the head of the Provisional Government, turned to the Petrograd Soviet for help and armed them in desperation
- Soldiers in Kornilov’s army refused to fight and thus the coup fell apart and Kornilov was arrested
