What is the population?
the whole set of items that are of interest
What is the census?
every member of the population
What is the sample?
a selection from a subject of the population
What is simple random sampling?
completely random sampling, e.g. names out of a hat
What is systematic sampling?
choosing things at regular intervals, e.g. every 10th person
What is stratified sampling?
A proportion of people taken from each group
No in group/no in population x sample size
What is quota sampling?
splitting the population into groups according to certain characteristics
What is opportunity sampling?
asking whoever is available at that time
Continuous vs discrete data
continuous data can take any value, discrete data can only take specific values

a big set of data you will be given in your exams to answer questions on
