What is resilience?
Adapting or recentering from a traumatic experience to get yourself bouncing back positively.
What are protective factors?
Factors in our lives that help us be resilient.
What are risk factors?
Factors that may cause difficulties for a person.
What is a drug?
Any substance other than food that changes how the body works.
What is drug use?
Mistaking, inhaling, absorbing, or injecting drugs to a limit that changes the way you think, act, or feel.
What is drug abuse?
Involves the use of drugs to the extent that it interferes with oneβs daily life at school, work, etc.
What are stimulants?
A drug that makes people feel awake and energetic by exciting the nervous system.
Example: Amphetamines, cocaine, crack, caffeine, nicotine.
What are depressants?
They depress the nervous system by slowing down the heartbeat, breathing while lowering blood sugar.
Example: Alcohol, Rohypnol.
What are hallucinogens?
Distorts a personβs perceptions of reality to the point where they believe/see things that arenβt real.
Example: Marijuana, LSD, Meth, Ecstasy.
What are synthetic drugs?
Man-made drugs that are often designed to mimic the effects of other illegal drugs.
Example: Bath Salts, Ecstasy, GHD, LSD, Meth.
Why are drugs dangerous?
They can produce measurable responses in the body and brain, leading to violent reactions, paranoia, delusions, severe hallucinations, and racing heartbeat.
What is Distress?
Negative stress.
Example: Divorce, death in family.
What is Fustress?
Positive stress.
Example: New job, new school.
What are some risk factors for mental health issues?
History of mental health, poverty, history of substance use.
What are the long-term effects of Alcohol?
Liver disease, cancer, mental health issues.
What are the long-term effects of Nicotine?
Heart/lung diseases, cancer.
What are the short-term effects of Alcohol?
Slurred speech, headache, euphoria.
What are the short-term effects of Nicotine?
Drowsiness, nausea, relaxation.
What are the short-term effects of Cannabis?
Anxiety, brain damage, dry mouth.

Reduced appetite, dry mouth, altered perception.
