🌋 Flashcards
Volcanoes usually found in what plate bounderies
Convergent and divergent
Slopes are gentle (15° or less)
Low viscosity, very fluidy
Shield volcano
Steep slopes (30-40°)
Made up pyroclastic materials
Cinder cone volcano
They have quiet eruption
Shield volcano
Steep conical volcano build up by many layers
Composite strato volcano
It is the type of volcano that is made up of different elements
Composite statro volvano
The summit center of the volcano completely away from the crater
Volcanic dome
Very liquid lava flows very widespread
Flood or plateau basalt
Large composite volcano collapsed after an explosion
Caldera
2 categories of volcanic eruption
Effusive and explosive
-Non explosive and relatively gentle
- lava flowing out from the source
Hawaiian eruption
-Frequent small eruption that eject ciders to the air
- caused by the build up of gas bubbles in the magma, which burst into surface
Strombolian eruption
—eject large ammount of ash
-eruption column can reach several kilometers high and the ash travel long distance
Vulcanian eruption
- the volcanic vent can become blocked by the viscous magma which can led to violent explosion
-pyroclastic flow can move at extremely high speed
Palean eruption
Most explosive eruption
-mushroom shaped cloud that rise several times into the air
PLINIAN eruption
Distribution of volcano
- Pacific ring of fire
- Hotspots
- Spreading of seafloors
- Subduction zones
Type of lava flow that is low viscous and runny lava
Pahoehoe lava
Type of lava flow that is more viscous, thicker and slow moving
Aa lava
Lava that rise up and react with the cold water
Pillow lava
Opening of the surface which the volcanic materials can escape
Vent
Underground passage
Conduit
Mouth of the volcano, which surround the vent
Crater
A cloud of ash form by volcanic explosion
Ash cloud
Large underground pool of liquid rock beneath the surface of the earth
Magma chamber
Pyroclastic material that ejected in the air during eruption
Tephra
