The 1923 Southern Rhodesia Constitution: established a racially segregated system of government in Southern Rhodesia, with separate electoral rolls and representation for white and black residents.
The 1961 Southern Rhodesia Constitution: This constitution introduced a system of universal suffrage, which allowed all adults to vote regardless of race. maintained a system of racial segregation in education and housing.
The 1969 Constitution: The 1969 Constitution established the Republic of Rhodesia, which was a unilateral declaration of independence by the white minority government of Ian Smith. The constitution abolished the office of the Queen, and established a new government with limited black representation.
The 1970 Constitution: established a government with limited black representation, but still maintained a system of racial segregation in many areas of society. The constitution was highly controversial, and contributed to the rise of nationalist movements in Zimbabwe.
