Symptoms of Zika Virus
A
- Most are asymptomatic
- Incubation 2-14 days
- Fever, rash, conjunctivitis, arthralgia, malaise, headache

Differentials if history of travel (Zika)
A
Dengue, malaria, chikungunya

Management of potential Zika virus exposure (periconception or pregnancy)
A
- Early specialist advice
- If exposure ≤2 weeks ago
a. symptomatic: urine zika PCR + IgG + IgM, repeat in 2 weeks if neg
b. asymptomatic: collect samples for testing and hold for future testing, repeat in 2 weeks - If exposure 2-4 weeks ago perform tests, no need to repeat
- If exposure >4 weeks ago perform Ig M and IgG only
- Refer to MFM if anything positive

Congenital Zika Virus signs
A
- Severe microcephaly
- Decreased brain tissue with subcortical calcifications
- Eye abnormalities (macular scarring, retinal focal pigmentation)
- Hypertonia
- Joint abnormalities (arthogryposis, talipes)
- Other (dysphagia, seizures, other eye findings, disrupted brain development or absent brain structures)
