Zero Fuel Weight Flashcards
Maximum Zero Fuel Weight (MZFW)
● MZFW is the maximum allowable weight of the aircraft before fuel is added.
● ZFW = Operational Empty Weight (OEW) + Payload
● MTOW = The most weight that an aircraft is certified to weigh for takeoff
● Large amounts of payload will cause wings to bend.
● If fuel (weight) is added to the wings it will relieve the wing bending.
○ This provides a “balance” to the bending!
● When fuel is added aircraft weight must not exceed maximum ramp weight.
● Take off weight (ramp weight – fuel for start and taxi) must not exceed MCTOW
● For any aircraft with a defined Maximum Zero Fuel Weight the maximum payload can be calculated as the MZFW minus the OEW (Operating Empty Weight)
○ Max Payload = MZFW − OEW
