Pharyngeal pouch,
hypopharyngeal diverticulum

A
Above the cricopharyngeal muscle

What are the signs and symptoms?
A
Dysphagia
- Regurgitation
- Halitosis - food stuck and digested by organisms
- Cough ( food regurg in airway)

Rarely causes pain

A
Barium swallow

What are other ways of diagnoses?
A
Endoscopy
CT with oral contrast

What needs to be considered before treatment?
A
If mild and asymptomatic, no treatment is needed

What is the treatment of Zenker’s Diverticulum?
A
- Surgical resection through cricopharyngeal muscle
- Endoscopic resection with stapling
