z-scores Flashcards
raw score
original, unchanged scores that are the direct result of a measurement
z-score sign
signals whether the score is located above (+) or below (-) the mean
z-score number (or magnitude)
signals the distance between the score and the mean in terms of the number of standard deviations
z-score
specifies the precise location of a score in relation to the mean in terms of the standard deviation
z-score formula
z = (X - μ) / σ
z-score transformation
a kind of standardized distribution that involves transforming of every individual score into a z-score (in this case, the shape of the distribution will remain the same, the mean (μ) will become 0, and the standard deviation (σ) will become 1)
standardized distribution
a distribution composed of transformed scores that result in predetermined values for μ and σ
standard score
a transformed score that provides information about its location in a distribution
