structurally varies from the previous paragraph as he begins with a fact about people with dyslexia in comparison with his personal experiences.
“I’m of the generation where teachers didn’t know what dyslexia was. The big problem with the education system then was that there was no compassion, no understanding and no humanity… the past is a different kind of country.”

Paragraph is explaining the authors thoughts on the education system.
“country” is a metaphor regarding how dissimilar the cultures, values and ideologies of the past are compared to today.

Parallel sentence to generate a climatic sense of optimism.
Collective pronoun.
Structurally ends with advice to build rapport with the reader, providing experiences as evidence for the credibility of his advice.
“When I look at a back, the first thing I see is the size of it, and I know that’s what it’s like for a lot of young people who find reading tough.”
