What are human rights?
Privileges considered to be a basic to an individual’s life. In Canada they are guaranteed by law and cannot be taken away.
What are responsibilities?
Obligations one must carry out in order to preserve and protect our rights
What is a right?
Is something to which a person is morally or legally entitled to
What are legal rights?
They are rights to ensure we are treated fairly when dealing with the justice system
What is a scapegoat?
When someone is blamed for problems they didn’t create
What is criminal law?
Deals with punishment of people who commit crime
What does civil law deal with?
Deal with the protection of private rights
What are the 5 things police need to do when making an arrest?
- Have warrant or see a crime
- Identify them as the police
- Avoid using too much force
- Tell the person why they are being arrested
- Tell them there rights
What is bail?
The amount of money you need to pay to get out of jail
What are 3 reasons you might be denied bail?
Re-offended when released
Run and not turn up to there trial
Have upset the public too much

Minimum security

Punishment
