Yo Flashcards
Bottom line for afib screening
DONT DO IT
Explain 4 key points about AAA screening
- Screen men with smoking history age 65 to 75
- After 75 decision is an individual one
- Insufficient evidence to screen women with smoking history
- Do not screen women who never smoked
What are the complications of AAA treatment?
Smaller diameter or benign AAAs when diagnosed leads to increased number of elective surgeries, women are at higher risk of dying from AAA corrective surgeries
Cut off for women and men in lipid screening
35 for men, 45 for women, high risk for both should be screened starting age 20
Screening for diabetes 3 facts
- Start at age 40
- Stop at 70
- If at increased risk (for example positive for family history) should be screened earlier, need only 1 risk factor in order to screen them earlier
What are the 4 facts about indications for aspirin?
- Started at 50 to 59 for those that have an > 10% risk of CVD and at the same time are not at increased risk of bleeding, used for primary prevention of CVD and CRC
- Individual decision for people 60 to 69
3 & 4: Insufficient evidence for younger or older
What are the GI risk factors that puts a person at increased risk of bleed?
GI ulcers, GI pain, male sex, older age, concurrent use of NSAIDs and uncontrolled HTN
Bacterial vaginosis screening in pregnancy to prevent preterm delivery
DO NOT SCREEN
Screening for primary HTN in children and adolescents
DO NOT SCREEN
BRACA related screening
Women who have family members with breast, ovarian or endometrial cancer should be screened for increased risk for BRACA genes, however they should receive genetic counseling before getting genetically tested
When should tamoxifen and raloxifen should not be used
In women that have a history of DVTs
Breast cancer screening age limits
40 to 75, before or after then there is insufficiency evidence, even starting at age 40 there is not such good evidence
Most important risk factor for breast cancer? 2nd?
Age, 2nd is having a first degree relative
Adjunctive screening in woman with dense breast?
Insufficient evidence, follow the usual guidelines
What does adjunctive screening mean for women with dense breast
The concept is for women with dense breast they are more likely to have a false negative with conventional mammography so in addition to that they should also get US or MRI, studies have shown this does not work, increases harm
Age limits for CRC screening
50 to 75
