Yo Flashcards
Destructive plate Boundary
Oceanic plates collide with continental plates meaning the oceanic plate slides under as it is less dense. The intense friction causes the plate to melt and magma rises through the gaps, creating a volcano
Constructive plate boundary
Two plates move apart causing magma to fill he gaps and creating a volcano
Collision
When two plates of similar densities move together, the material between them rises up forming a mountain
Conservative
When the plates do not collide, but slide past eachother the friction causes pressure to build up and creates a fault
Earthquake proof building methods
Reinforced concrete, crossed gurdas, deep foundations, heavy weight at the top
Shield volcano
Low and long, erupts frequently but weakly formed by a constructive boundary
Composite volcano
Not very wide but tall, doesn’t erupt frequently but erupts violently when it does
Why do people live near volcanoes?
Rich minerals/materials, tourism, geothermal energy, good farming nutrients

4 layers of the earth:
Inner core, outer core, mantle, crust
Good effects of Eyjafjallajoküll
Warm, nutreint filled ash covered the crops which lead to a good harvest. Tourism increased
Bad effects of Eyjafjallajoküll
An enourmous ash cloud prevented flights so nothing could be imported and exported. Dangerous floods were caused by the ice caps melting because of the immense heat of the magma
Eyjafjallajoküll key facts
It Lies on the mid Atlantic ridge between the North American plate and the Eurasian plate. Magma easily escapes the earths interior and into the volcano as it sits on a massive gap in the plates
Epicentre
The point directly above the point where the eruption first hits the crust
