Year seven: forces Flashcards
Forces
A push or pull that causes objects or move
Contact force
A push or pull on an object that is affected by another through contact
Non-contact force
A push or pull on an object caused that is affected by another not through the means of contact
Friction
The resistance that is felt when one object is slid over another (contact force)
Gravity
A force of attraction that is felt between two objects due to their masses
Interaction pairs
Two forces of equal magnitude travelling in opposite directions
Newtons
The unit of measurement of forces
Newton meters
Measures the force on an object
Resultant force
Mass X acceleration
The overall force on a certain point of an object
Equilibrium
A state of balance between forces
Balanced forces
Equal forces acting on an object in opposite directions
Unbalanced force
Two or more unequal forces acting in opposite directions
Driving force
The force that is pushing or pulling an object
Resistive force
Any force trying to slow down or stop the movement of an object
Gravitational force
An attractive force between any two objects
