Year Seven Chemisty Revision Flashcards
Give examples and the properties of solids
Properties: Definite shape and volume, particles are tightly packed and only vibrate in place.
Examples: Ice, diamond, wood.
Give examples and the properties of liquids
Properties: Definite volume but no definite shape, particles are close but can move past each other.
Examples: Water, oil, juice.
Give examples and the properties of gasses
Properties: No definite shape or volume, particles are far apart and move freely.
Examples: Air, helium, water vapor.
What are the five changing states of matter?
Melting, Freezing, Evaporation, condensation, sublimation and deposition
What is melting?
When a solids melts to a liquid
What is freezing?
When a liquid freezes to a solid
What is evaporation?
When a liquid changes to a gas
What is condensation?
When a gas changes to a liquid
What is sublimation?
When a solid turns into a gas
What is deposition?
When a gas turns into a solid
What is the particle model of a solid?
Solids have tightly packed particles.
What is the particle model of a liquid?
Liquids have loosely packed particles.
What is the particle model of a gasses?
Gasses have particles that are far about and move around all over the place.
What is a physical changes?
When a substance changes state or appearance, without changing the substance itself
What is a chemical change?
A change that forms a new substance.
