Year 9 /topic 1GCSE Flashcards
What is the role of the nucleus
The nucleus directs cell activates and it contains DNA
What is the role of the Mitochondria
Its to make energy out of food (glucose)
What is the role of the ribosomes
To make protein
What is the role of the permeant vacoule
It is used to store water and cell sapp
What is the role of the chloroplast
It is used to make food from photosynthesis
What is the role of the cell wall
It is to support the plants structure
What is magnificatiom
Magnification is the ability to make small objects seem larger
What is resolution
Resolution is the ability to distinguish two objects from each other
What are eukaryotic cells
Cells that have a nucleus, examples: plant and animal cells
What are prokaryotic cells
Prokaryotic cells are cells that luck lack nucleus and any membrane
How are prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells alike
Both cells have ribosomes and memebrane
How are prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells are different
Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus and have circular DNA, while eukaryotic have a nucleus and linear DNA
What is duffsion
Diffusion is a movement of particles from a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area, down gradient until equilibran is reached
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a dilute solution to a concentrated solution across a partially permeable membrane.
What are the factors that effect diffusion
The higher the temperature the faster rate diffusion takes place, increases the concentration gradient
Why is diffusion important
Diffusion is important because it can help transport nutrients to the cells and can get rid of old cells
What is active transport?
Transport where it goes from a lower concentration to higher concentration , it requires protein carriers and it goes against the concentration gradient.
Surface area to volume
The ratio between the surface area and volume, how easy the exchange of substances depends on the organisms SA:V
