Year 9 Cells Flashcards
List the organelles in a plant cell
Nucleus, Endoplasmic reticulum, nucleolus, large central vacuole, cell wall, cell membrane, Golgi apparatus, vacuole membrane, chloroplasts, mitochondrion, cytoplasm, Druse crystal and Raphide crystal.
List the organelles in an animal cell
Cell membrane, rough Endoplasmic reticulum, smooth Endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi body, mitochondrion, ribosomes, cytoplasm, vacuole, lysome.
What do the Ribosomes do
The ribosomes make the protein for the cell
What does the Nucleus do
The nucleus contains Chromosomes which contain DNA. Controls the cells activity.
What does the cell membrane do
It controls what goes in and out of the cell
What does the cell wall do
Provides structure and stability for the cell
What does the cytoplasm do
It provides a place for all of the chemical reactions to take place
What do mitochondria do
Provide energy for the cell
What do chloroplasts do
Contain chlorophyll which allow photosynthesis to take place.
What does the vacuole do
The vacuoles are storage areas, however they are much larger in plant cells.
What does the Endoplasmic reticulum do
The Endoplasmic reticulum holds the ribosomes and the ribosomes are involved in making proteins.
What does the Golgi body do
The Golgi body( Golgi apparatus)makes some of the chemicals within the cell. It also collects and packages chemicals ready to be transported around the cell.
