The 6 week period leading up to Easter where Christian’s remember Jesus’ time alone in the wilderness
What is a ministry?
Jesus’ life preaching and teaching people about God
From what ages was Jesus in the ministry
Ages 30-33 (only 3 years)
What do Christians do during lent
Spring cleaning, renew faith, fast, pray, give, catholics don’t eat meat, Renew faith in god
When does lent begin
Ash Wednesday, shrove Tuesday is when they get rid of fatty stuff
How long is lent (in days) and why?
40 days, time Jesus spent in wilderness and 40 years Israelites wondered desert before finding promised land.
Why do Christians put ash crosses on their head?
Sign of penitence, mortality, people feeling sad for their sins.
How are the ash crosses made?
From burning palm crosses from previous palm sunday
What does the story of temptation remind Christians to do?
Focus on god, how he has given us luxury and we should respect and thank him for it instead of being greedy for more.
What does Jesus’ strength tell Christians (story of temptation)
Should not let temptation and greed get in the way of what really matters - following/worshipping God
Why do Christians use lent to help them remember what is important?
Bc giving something up or not having something reminds them that they are lucky to have what they do, and god ha given them the luxury if having those things.
What was the final commandment jesus gave to his disciples? (Last supper)
“Love one another as I have loved you”
Why did Jesus give (last supper final commandment) to his disciples?
To keep compassion and kindness un the world even after he is gone because that’s why he was brought in, to remove people of sin
What day do Christian’s give to the day before Jesus died?
Maundy Thursday
What does Maundy mean and why is it called Maundy Thursday
Commandment, Jesus gave the final commandment ti his disciples.
How did Jesus show his disciples ‘unconditional love’?
He washed their feet 😋
Why did Jesus wash his disciples feet?
To show true humility and love for his followers, servant leadership - as a leader, he puts others before himself and showed them how to be humble
Why were the disciples hesitant when Jesus washed their feet (idk why I would’ve thought it was great)
Washing feet is a servants job and they are having their powerful lord, son of god do a servants job for them
What is Palm Sunday
The day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, beginnng the final week of his life
What is Hosanna
The people shouted hosanna meaning ‘saviour’ when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem
Why did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on a donkey
To fulfill what the Old Testament said and to show humility and he doesn’t need a posh stallion to be seen as important
Why did Palm Sunday anger the Jewish and Roman leaders
They were jealous they everyone was cslling Jesus the lord and king and not them, different ideas to them
Why did the last supper take place?
To celebrate Jewish passover
What did Jesus share with his disciples and what did he tell them to do?
Bread and wine, “do this in memory of me”
