Year 7 Forces Flashcards
What is a force?
A force is an action that makes something or someone move or not move. It is either a pull, push or a twist.
What is a contact force?
A force that acts when you touch something.
What is an example of a contact force?
Friction and air resistance.
What is a non-contact force?
A Force acts even if it isn’t touching anything.
What is an example of a non-contact force?
Gravity and magnetic force.
How do you measure forces?
In Newtons. Often using a Newtonmeter.
What is a resultant force?
The resultant force is the difference between two forces working against each other.
How do you calculate speed?
Distance travelled divided by time taken.
What does gravitational force depend on?
The mass of an object and how far apart they are.
How do you calculate weight?
Mass times gravitational field strength.
What is an unbalanced force?
Where two forces acting against each other are not equal.
What is a balanced force?
Where the two forces that are acting against each other are equal. The object is then equilibrium.
