Year 13 - Electric Fields Flashcards
Coulombs Law
The electrostatic force between two point charges is directly proportional to the product of their charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
Electric Field
A Region in space where a charged particle will experience a force.
Electric Field Line
Direction that a positive test charge would accelerate.
Electric Field Strength
Force per unit positive charge.
Electric Potential
Work done [or energy needed] per unit charge [or (change in) electric pe per unit charge] on a (small) positive (test) charge in moving the charge from infinity (to the point) [not from the point to infinity].
Electric Potential Energy
The work done by an external force in bringing the charge from infinity to that point in the field.
Line of Equipotential
Line joining points of equal potential, which are at right angles to field lines.
Permittivity of Free Space
A measure of the ability of a vacuum to allow an electric field to pass through it.
