Year 11 linear motion Flashcards
Why do we use significant figures and scientific notation
the clarity of conversation and results
the perimeter of a square is 1.23 x 4.6 to what number of significant figures is this answer round to
2 because 4.6 is the worse result
307.63 has 5 significant figures why?
because any zero in between other digits is significant
0⋅00673 this is only 3 significant figures
The leading zeros do not increase the number of significant figures.
0⋅006730 or 67⋅30 – these show 4 significant figures.
In both of these numbers, there is absolutely no reason to include the trailing zero, unless to indicate an increased accuracy in measurement.
When moving the decimal place once to left would [blank] the number
increase power
moving the decimal place to the right will [blank] the number
reduce the power
when giving an answer you should always pay attention to what?
the amount of significant figures I should round to
2.9924 what is this number when rounding to 4 significant figures
the number becomes 2.992
2.9924 at 2 significant figures
