Year 10 Physics Flashcards
What is weight?
The pull of gravity of an object’s mass. It is a force measured in Newtons (N).
What is mass?
How much matter an object contains. It is measured in kg and never changes.
What is gravitational field strength?
Measure of the force of gravity. Measured in Newtons per kilogram (N/kg or Nkg-1)
What is the law of inertia?
An object will stay still or in motion, unless acted upon by another force. Meaning an object will not move unless someone/something pushes it.
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed is how fast an object is moving. Velocity is the direction an object is moving in. They are similar because they both relate to moving.
What is Newton’s second law?
F=ma (force equals mass times acceleration)
What is the formula for velocity?
velocity = displacement divided by time
What is the formula for acceleration?
acceleration = change minus velocity divided by time
