Q

Tunica intina

A

The innermost layer! Composed of a thin layer of endothelial cells and lines the entire circulatory system. Capillaries only have this. It has an ultra thin design to allow for nutrients and gasses to be exchanged.

Q

The three most common causes for anemia

A

Iron deficiency anemia: caused by a shortage of iron. In your body. The bone marrow needs iron to produce hemoglobin. Without this your body can’t produce enough hemoglobin for red blood cells. This often occurs in many pregnant women. It’s also caused by blood loss.
Vitamin deficiency anemia: your body needs folate and vitamin b-12 to produce enough healthy red blood cells. A diet lacking in these can cause decreased red blood cell production. Some people can’t process B-12 which also causes this.
Sickle cell anemia: this is inherited and is caused by a defective form of hemoglobin that forces red blood cells to assume a abnormal sickle shape. These irregular blood cells die early resulting in a chronic shortage of blood cells.

Q

Anemia complications

A

Causes very servere fatigue
Pregnancy Complications such as premature birth
Heart problems- an irregular heartbeat
Death- especially in sickle cell anemia people can lose a lot of blood easily and quickly and this results in acute servere anemia and can be fatal.

Q

Anemia treatment

A

It depends on the underlying diagnosis. Iron supplements can be used for iron deficianxh, vitamin B for low vitamin levels, blood transfusions for blood loss, rarely a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy
