Notes on a GP Practice
Longitudinal Care - Patients will gain a relationship with their GP
The Practice will adapt to the needs of public health and therefore they vary widely from practice to practice
Digitisation - the practice will use technology such as digital records and appt booking
Some will be partner owned others owned by local NHS trust
Work Life Balance of a GP
Flexibility for both partners and associate
GPs can opt into night/on-call shifts

3 styles of consultation
authoritarian/paternalistic - Dr telling pt what to do
guidance/co-operation - The dr suggests a route to take and the pt cooperates
mutual participation - the Dr and pt work together to come up with the pland of management - this respects autonomy the most

Connect with the pt
Verbal checking that reasons for attending are clear ad understood
Set up for hand over
Sign posting to ensure everything is covered

Common interview techniques used in GP
Questioning - using open, closed, direct, reflective and leading questions in order to gain information
Listening and silence - Active listening and allowing pt to open themselves up and let you knwo what is going on how they wish to
Facilitation - cooperating with the patient and giving them the tools they need
