Osteomyelitis
- a bone infection
Causes ;
Surgery, bacteria, fracture, open wound
Diagnosis
X-ray, CT, MRI
Symptoms
- warm/ hot to touch
- possible discharge drainage
- painful
- swelling
- redness
- elevated WBC
Treatment
- antibiotic
Chronic osteomyelitis
- a bone infection lasting longer than 4 weeks
- interventions include antibiotics, surgery
Chemotherapy
- works by targeting replicating DNA during the cells diving phases
- treatment method for cancer
- you need a certification in order to give chemo & you need a second nurse to verify the procedure
Complications
- anemia, hair loss, fatigue, NVD, infertility, easy bruising, loss of appetite, infection
Heart failure
- a heart condition in which the heart is unable to pump blood effectively to the lungs and rest of the body
Symptoms can be divided between left and right sides however common between both are
- dyspnea
- chest pain
Medications / treatment
Digoxin
- heart rate above 60 in order to administer because it will decreases the Heart rate
- halo lights is a sign for toxicity
- administer digifab ^
Diuretics
- monitor potassium loss
- monitor intake and output
Beta blocker
- lowers blood pressure
- slows heart rate
- monitor blood pressure
ACE
- relaxed blood vessels
- lower bp
Antihypertensive medication
- used for patients with high blood pressure
Side effects include
- cough
- NVD
- headaches
Bone fractures
- a broken bone or a partially broken bone
Caused
- trauma, fall, accidents
Patients with osteoporosis are at a higher risk for getting a bone fractured
Symptoms
- pain
- swelling
- tenderness
Diagnosis
X rays & bone scan
Treatment
R - rest
I - ice
C - compression
E - elevate above the heart
