ya Flashcards
Water cycle
Flow of water on Earth
Transpiration/Evaporation > Condensation > Precipitation
Transpiration
Evaporation of water from a plant
Aquifer
Layer of underground rock that contains groundwater
Potable water
Water you can drink. Ex. Water from aquifer
Solution
Homogeneous mixture (of 2 or more substances)
Heterogeneous
Mixture of 2 or more phases (layers).
Concentration
Ratio of solute (#) per solvent (unit volume)
Solute + Solvent
Solute = Least in solution, solvent = most in solution. Ex. Hand santizer where water is solute and ethanol is solvent
Concentrated vs dilute solution
Concentrated: Lots of solute per solvent
Dilute: Little of solute per solvent
Alloy
Solution of 2 or more metals. Ex. Gold jewelry, for the most part, is gold + silver/copper
Amalgam
Alloy with mercury
Aqueous solution
Solution where water is solvent (most present)
Hydration
Process where ions are surrounded by water molecules
Dissociation
Separation of ions from an ionic compound as it dissolves in water
Miscible
To be able to mix to form a solution
