Q

How are the atoms in a molecule linked together ?

A

The atoms in a molecule are linked together through chemical bonds, which can be broadly of two types: Ionic Bonds(transfer through electrons) Covalent bonds(the equal sharing of electrons from both participating atoms).

A

Salt water/ sugar dissolved in water/ rubbing alcohol

17
Q

What is a solvent?

A

A liquid in which a substance dissolves in is called the solvent

18
Q

What is an example of a solvent?

A

Water, methanol, acetone, ethanol

19
Q

What is a solute?

A

A substance that is dissolved in a solution

20
Q

What is an example of a solute ?

A

Salt, antifreeze, sugar

21
Q

How do you balance a chemical equation?

A

First, count the atoms on each side. Second, change the coefficient(amount) of one of the substances. Third, count the numbers of atoms again and, from there, repeat steps two and three until you’ve balanced the equation.

22
Q

Is this equation balanced- Ca + Cl2 → CaCl2.

A

Yes

23
Q

What is a reactant?

A

Reactants are the starting materials in a reaction that undergo a chemical change to form a product

24
Q

Which part of the word equation is the reactants

Mg+HCL—>MgCl2+H2

A

Before the arrow

25
Q

What is a product?

A

A product is where substances are being chemically bonded together
