How did Elijah prove that God exists?
He challenged the prophets of Baal and was able to light the meat on the altar with the power of God, but they could not.
What is a prophet?
A messenger of God.
What is the purpose of prophetic texts?
To give messages, warnings and predictions about the future.
What was Isaiah’s vision?
God sitting on a throne with angels and hot coal touches Isaiah’s lips.
Who does Isaiah predict the coming of?
The Messiah, which Christians believe is Jesus.
What will the world be like when the Messiah comes, according to Isaiah?
A perfect place of peace.
What is repentance?
Being sorry and asking for forgiveness.
What does Amos say about how we should live?
Repent, care for the poor, don’t show off your religion, listen to God.
Who was John the Baptist?
Jesus’ cousin, a baptiser, the final prophet, a wildman.
Why didn’t the Holy Spirit call prophets after John the Baptist?
Because God came to earth Himself in form of Jesus to spread the word Himself.
What is meant by prophet, priest and king?
Prophet = messenger of God, Priest = a person anointed by God with a role to intercede and celebrate the sacraments, King = an anointed person with authority and power.
What is a witness?
A person who shows the truth of God’s message.
What is a lay person?
An ordinary, baptised member of the Church.
What is evangelisation?
Spreading the word of God.
How can Catholics live out their prophetic mission?
Through actions (being kind, honest and helpful), words (talking about faith, sharing teachings of Jesus) and in the community (charity, church activities, speaking out).
