Xtra - Decision and source evaluation. Flashcards
Decision.
Health risks:
Medical professionals are still uncertain about the long-term effects of vaping and the chemicals in vapes, making them more dangerous due to the unknown consequences.
Vaping has various medical issues associated with it.
Environmental impact:
Vaping causes significant environmental harm due to harmful toxins being exhaled by millions of people and the massive waste generated by discarded vapes.
Vapes and their components, like plastics, are non-biodegradable, further damaging the environment.
Addiction:
Vapes are addictive due to the nicotine they contain, making it difficult for users to quit.
Continued use of vapes can prevent health issues from improving, making addiction a critical problem.
Potential benefits and limitations:
Vaping might help some people stop smoking, but the long-term health effects of vaping are still unknown.
While vapes may seem “healthier” than cigarettes, they are still harmful and addictive.
Vaping as a coping mechanism:
Vapes can be used to cope with stress or anxiety, but they may actually worsen these conditions.
Prolonged periods without vaping can increase anxiety and stress levels.
Regulation proposals:
Raising the minimum age for purchasing vapes could help, but it may not fully resolve the problem due to potential underage theft and illegal purchases.
Raising the price of vapes could also lead to higher theft rates as younger people might steal vapes they can’t afford.
Conclusion: A complete ban on vapes in the UK is the most effective solution to address health, environmental, and social problems.
