What are enzymes
Enzymes are are chemicals that help fruit to ripen but after the food is ripe they make to fruit rot.
What causes food to spoil
Enzymes, microorganisms, mould yeast and bacteria.
What are microorganisms (5)
They are tiny plants of animals. They cause the food to breakdown, rot, go sour,make it discolour and become slimy or sticky.
What is mould
Mould grows on food and looks like cotton. It damages the appearance and taste
What does mould need to grow, and what can kill it.
It needs heat, moisture but can be killed by sunlight
What is yeast and what is it used for
Yeast grows on sugary foods it affects the taste and look. It’s is used in bread making as it contains vitamins
What is bacteria used for making
Cheese, yogurt and vinegar
