XLA 8s Flashcards
Two guidelines for XLA 8s?
NICE
SDCEP
What do NICE guidelines suggest?
Prophylactic removal discontinued
When do NICE suggests removal 8s?
Unrestorable caries
Non treatable pulpal disease
Resorption of tooth or adjacent teeth
Disease of follicle
What do NICE suggest about pericoronitis?
First episode (unless severe) not indication, second or subsequent can be appropriate indication
What SCDEP guidelines relate?
Management of acute dental problems
What do SDCEP refer to as pericoronitis?
Infection under operculum associated w/ pain
Pain localised around PE tooth
Swelling, diff swallowing, limited opening, unpleasant taste, fever, malaise
What is main factor which changes management of pericoronitis?
Airway involvement - compromised/ uncompormised
What to do if airway compromised in pericoronitis?
Send pt immediately for emergency care
How to proceed if pt has pericoronitis w/ uncompromised airway?
Recommend optimal analgesia
Ab - only if sign of spreading infection
OHE inc rinse CHX
Consider: debridement
When consider XLA w/ pericoronitis?
Repeated episode
When consider XLA opposing tooth?
Consider if trauma to operculum esp if opposing tooth not functional
