What can X-rays pass through?
Soft material and they are absorbed by dense material (eg bones)
What do X-rays mark?
Photographic film to create X-ray images
What do CT scans do?
Use X-rays to create a 3D image of soft and hard tissue
What happens in a CT scan?
X-rays are emitted and detected on other side. Cylinder rotates and multiple images are taken.
What are the dangers of X-rays?
They can ionise and kill cells
How can X-rays be used and how does it have to be done?
To treat cancer cells but they have to be focused on tumour at correct angle so they don’t harm healthy cells
What precautions have to be taken when dealing with X-rays?
1) Radiographers wear lead aprons and have lead screens
2) Patients have lead shields on rest of body
