Q
What are the 7 steps in waste water treatment process?
A
- Bar screen
- Grit Chamber - sand & dirt settle to bottom
- Primary Clarifier - functions on principle of settling velocity, all organic matter at this stage - water flows over weir wall to
- Aeration Basin - air bubbles and bacteria are added which promotes Aerobic Digestion (breakdown of organic matter using excess oxygen)
- Secondary Clarifiers - filters, final removal of solids and biological matter
- Disinfection - 3 ways: Chlorine (chemical) kills remaining bacteria but has to be removed, Ozone - electrical current pumped through water causing O3 damage to cells or UV Rays which scrambled bacteria’s DNA so that they can’t multiply.
- Effluent Release - water is released into water source
In rare cases where water is scarce, water is further treated for drinking - Full Cycle Water Reuse
