Imperialism
building an empire, adding to your territory
Nationalism
having pride in one’s country
Militaristic
pursuing an aggressive military policy
Fascism
a political philosophy in which total power is given to a dictator and individual freedoms are denied. Nationalism and racism are emphasized.
Communism
a type of government as well as an economic system in which individual people do not own land, factories, or machinery. Instead, the government or the whole community owns these things.
Appeasement
giving something to an aggressive power to keep the peace.
Pact
an agreement
Non-aggression pact
an agreement not to attack each other.
Main Axis Powers
the alignment of nations that fought in the Second World War against the Allied forces. Germany, Italy and Japan
Main Allied Powers
formed mostly as a defense against the attacks of the Axis Powers. The Main Allied Powers were: Britain, France, Soviet Union and the United States
Nazi
a member of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.
Battle of Britain
the series of aerial combats that took place between British and German aircraft during the autumn of 1940. It was the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces.
Natural resources
materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain.
Lend-Lease Act-
was a program under which the United States supplied the United Kingdom, Free France, the Republic of China, and later the Soviet Union and other Allied nations with food, oil, and materials between 1941 and August 1945.
Theater of war
the entire land, sea, and air area that is or may become involved directly in war operations.
