June 6, 1944, The day that the Allied invasion of German occupied France began

the isolating, closing off, or surrounding of a place, as a port, harbor, or city, by hostile ships or troops to prevent entrance or exit.

The US naval victory in the Pacific during World War II that stop Japanese expansion and forced Japan to focus on defense
