A pact to say that Russia and Germany would not fight.
Hitler did not want to fight on two fronts

Order 9066
- President FDR (Roosevelt) authorizes the “relocation” of all Japanese citizens during WW II in 1942
- Tens of thousands of Japanese Americans were forcefully moved to internment camps, in many cases losing their homes, businesses, and belongings
Bevin Boys
The name of the men (aged 18-25) who worked in in the coal mines as an alternative to military service
November Revolution (Weimar)
The Communist party threatening to take Germany’s government by force
Although it failed, it supported Hitler’s point and showed the German people that their government was not working.
Japanese Imperialism
Japanese imperialism was not only about increasing their territory. It was also about a sense of mission and facial superiority.
Their expansion unfolded gradually.
Many Japanese people thought of it as bringing their Asian brethren together.
Battle of Britain
A battle in which the RAF defended the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe. This battle was fought entirely by air and lasted about a year, lasting from July 1940 to May or June 1941.
Operation Torch
In 1942, Patton led UK and US troops through North Africa to invade German territory
Manhattan Project
code name for the secret United States project masterminded by Robert Oppenheimer in 1942 to develop atomic bombs for use in World War II. Took place in New Mexico (not Manhattan)
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Leader of the Allied forces in Europe then was elected to be Pres. of the USA. Organized D-Day.
Hideki Tojo
Prime minister of Japan during World War II who believed in superiority and invincibility of Japan
Benito Mussolini
Fascist Dictator of Italy. Caused death of nearly 100,000 Libyans. Signed a “Pact of Steel” with Hitler.
Battle of Bataan
- American and allied forces were isolated by the Japanese army without supplies.
- Essentially abandoned by the US and left to starve or be captured.
- Survivors endured the famous batten “Death March” where soldiers were treated ruthlessly by the Japanese Army.
Winston Churchill
- Named Prime Minister of Britain in 1940.
- Though of as a courageous, no-nonsense leader.
- Engaging speaker.
- Ruthless military strategist.
D-Day
- Allied invasion of France on June 6, 1944
- Largest amphibious invasion in history.
- The turning point in the war for the allies.
