Selective Service Act
The Congress passed the SSA in May of 1917 which required all men ages 21-45 years and older to serve in the war.
Zimmerman Note
A secret message that was sent by German Arthur Zimmerman to the German ambassador (president) which was sent to Mexico in January of 1917.
League of Nations
An international organization, headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland which was created after WWI to prevent future wars and resolve conflict.
Lusitania
was a British luxury cruise ship that sank resulting in 128 American deaths which sent the U.S. into outrage because the ship crew ignored the British’s instruction to zigzag and avoid submarines.
Propaganda posters
influenced people’s thoughts toward a cause.
End date of the war
November 11, 1918.
Treaty of Versailles
An agreement that was signed on June 28, 1919 which officially ended WWI. This also established the League of Nations.
The convoy system
A group of merchant ships that sail together under the protection of more heavy armed ships.
