Militarism meaning

a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through colonization, use of military force, or other means.
Nationalism meaning
An extreme form of patriotism marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries.

Militarism and the war
Because England had a large navy, Germany wanted a large army too, so France and Germany competed to build larger armies. Between 1870 and 1914, all of the major powers doubled the size of their armies except Britain and the USA.
Alliances and the war.
Alliances were made to create peace, so that no country would want to attack another. The only problem is, an argument between two countries could draw in all other countries allied to them into fight. This is what caused the world war.
Imperialism and the war
Imperialism caused tension in Europe because the amount of land that Britain and France owned led to rivalry with Germany.
Nationalism and the war
Serbia believed to be superior, and wanted to be free from foreign control.
