Q

Militarism and the war

A

Because England had a large navy, Germany wanted a large army too, so France and Germany competed to build larger armies. Between 1870 and 1914, all of the major powers doubled the size of their armies except Britain and the USA.

Q

Alliances and the war.

A

Alliances were made to create peace, so that no country would want to attack another. The only problem is, an argument between two countries could draw in all other countries allied to them into fight. This is what caused the world war.
