M = Militarism, A = Alliances, N =Nationalism, I = Imperialism, and A = Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria.
Who were the Central Powers in WWI?
Austria-Hungary, Germany, Ottoman Empire (Turkey)`
Who were the Allied powers in WWI?
Great Britain, Russia, France, USA
What new weapons and machinery were used in WWI?
Machine guns, poison gas, tanks, airplanes, submarines
Why did the USA enter the war in 1917?
Germany sank the Lusitania, Germany sent secret messages to Mexico promising Mexico Texas back if Mexico were to enter the war in support of Germany, Germany said they would sink any ships with their submarines.
Why was WWI different from other wars before it?
1 = big number of deaths, 2 = use of new technologies, 3 = number of countries involved, and 4 = amount of destruction.
What was the official end of the WWI?
The Treaty of Versailles in 1919
How was the Treaty of Versailles a RAW deal for Germany?
R = Reparations (Germany had to pay $33 Billion), A = Allies punished Germany (took land and limited their military), W = War guilt was forced on Germany (Germany had to sign the clause saying they were to blame for the war).
What is No Man’s Land?
The area that separated two sides of trenches from each other.
What was the League of Nations?
Organization set up after WWI to settle future problems peacefully (USA never joined).
