Q

What was the Great Migration, and why did it occur?

A

Before the war, African Americans found it difficult to find work in the United States. During WWI, there was a great need for workers in factories, as many of the former laborers were fighting in the war. African Americans, who faced a lot of racism in the South, moved in great numbers to the north, where factories were hiring. This came to be known as the Great Migration.
