The bombing of Britain by the German forces sometimes for several hours straight
What’s the military origin of the Blitz?
German air forces failed to defeat the RAF during the battle of Britain so Hitler decided to try to make Britain surrender by bombing it.
What were the main targets of the Blitz?
The main targets of the Blitz were civilians and the infrastructures in Britain
Describe the life of civilians during the Blitz
When a bombing arrived, people had to flee to the closest shelter (sometimes underground), families were split up and children were sent to the countryside and there were shortages. People had to volunteer to help the fires cool down: the fireguards
and they were accidents because of blackouts
What was the Blitz Spirit?
it was a spirit of hope and helping each other, it was supposed to bring people together and comfort them during the bombings
Was the Blitz Spirit real?
Nah, anti semitism increased and people cared more about themselves
What were the casualties of the Blitz?
43 000 civilians died and 70 000 injured

London, Burmingham, Southampton, Manchester, Liverpool…
