What is a democracy?
A system where the people of the country attend free, fair elections to decide how the country is ruled.
What is a dictatorship?
A one party state.
Give 3 ideas of Hitler’s that might have caused WW2.
1) Hitler threatened to break the Treaty of Versailles.
2) Hitler said that he would destroy Communism which may have led to war with The USSR.
3) Hitler demanded that Germany and Austria would unite which was against the Treaty of Versailles.
What does Blitzkrieg mean?
“Lightning War”.
What was the Blitzkrieg?
Hitler’s plan of attack - the Germans would bomb important places like power stations and airfields before sending infantry units to take over those areas.
Why did Hitler create the Blitzkrieg?
To weaken the country before they invaded properly, leaving them defenceless and to cause havoc and panic amongst the civilians.
What happened in Dunkirk?
France and Britain were defending France from the German troops who were advancing. Many retreated back to Dunkirk and Winston Churchill ordered that anyone with a boat would bring the soldiers home.
How many members of the British, French and Belgian armies were rescued?
340,000!
Why was World War Two known as ‘Total War’?
Because everyone was involved, not just those at war but those on the home front
Give a similarity between Britain and Germany.
Carpet bombing was used to cause mass destruction.
Give a difference between Britain and Germany.
Britain suffered 43,000 casualties
Germany suffered 130,000 casualties
Why was the Treaty of Versailles a cause of World War Two?
Germany felt it was forced upon them
Why was Hitler given rule over Sudetenland?
Hitler threatened to declare war and Chamberlain and Benes (the Czech leader) didn’t want it to happen.
What did Hitler do when he took over Germany that was against the Treaty of Versailles?
1) He introduced a compulsory military service and they built tanks, planes, submarines etc
2) The Austrian leader, Von Schuschnigg, visited Germany and was forced to make the Austrain Nazi Party legal and was then forced to resign and was replaced by a Nazi
